Karate Demo at SJK (C) Kok Wah Telibong Tamparuli

SKA Kelab Akademi Karate Inanam with a small team of our members travelled to SJK (C) Kok Wah in Telibong, Tamparuli to give a karate demo.

SJK (C) Kok Wah is only a small school compared to most around the area, but we were given a fantastic welcome nonetheless and it was an pleasure to spend the morning with such a bunch of wonderful children!

We began by giving a very brief introduction to traditional karate, where it comes from and a little about the classes we offer around Kota Kinabalu. We also mentioned the fact that martial arts is based heavily on mutual respect and to illustrate this, we started our demonstration with the formal etiquette and opening salutation.

Our demonstration covered basic striking, kicking and receiving techniques, followed by a selection of kata (forms) to show how specific techniques may be linked together. We then showed some of these techniques in application and on pads. We certainly weren't short of volunteers!

We were not disappointed - everyone took part with a very positive attitude and judging by the smiles around afterwards, the childrens seemed to really enjoy the experience.
